The website is uses a wide range of persuasion element to invest in Honda automobiles:

    1. It uses graphics and design as persuasive elements by making the page easy to navigate.
    2. Numerical date to suggest that anyone can afford this car.For example: website provides online quotes and estimated payments.
    3. Expert testimony on the safety of the vehicle and performance quality.
4.Opposing arguments by comparing Honda's to other competitors vehicles.
5.Appeals to emotion by catering to all types of consumers interested in buying a Honda's. For example people that have family's, people interest in investing in a environmentally friendly or someone buying a car for the first time.
    6.Presents a very professional persona.

In using the amazon site to determine their effectiveness at being persuasive, I saw a lot of techniques that seemed to work well. If you don’t know about kindle before going to this site, you will leave with a sound knowledge of the product. The site uses numerical data instantly, (#1 bestselling", "#1 most wished product), to show all visitors that this is the newest best item they have to offer and everyone wants it. Terms like bestselling suggest that there is a high demand for the popular item. When you click on the item and scroll down, there is a section for the expert testimonies by the New York Times, Wired, and other enthusiasts who are giving their respected views of the product. If you are not interested in the kindle, there are great deals for ordering flowers for that special someone, as Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. The use of this seasonal promotion shows vibrant red roses and lets a potential buyer know that it’s not too late to order, even if that’s not the reason you came to the site. I believe that the site was very effective in trying to persuade the consumers.

    Online Example: Lens Crafters (website)
From looking at chapter eight and looking on the Lens Crafters website I have noticed that the web designer has effectively advertised bargain deals on their products. Also they have created their product (eyewear) in different categories that are capturing to the eye. An example of this is how they have categorized (eyewear) in style so that it can appeal to a wide variety of people to buy. (Persuasion)
When referring to how this website has ineffectively tried to persuade their audience is how they put all their services and policies on the website on how to purchase any eyewear from them. In my opinion this will discourage someone from buying any product from them, due to the fact they may or may not have it.

+YES, I had to go with the Marine Corps. I had the idea in my head BEFORE I read the chapter!
    Effective Persuasion:
Honestly, the military in general have to have the best persuasive websites, because not everybody wants to join any branch, right away.

-The U.S. Marine Corps website mainly uses emotional appeal. Throughout the slides on the first page of the site they use key phrases such as: "Answer the calling to serve our country" and "Help defend the American way of life". It appeals directly to young Americans who have been brought up to honor their country. It also has big titles claiming: "A Better Life", "A Life of Achievement", "An Opportunity To Succeed: Join a brotherhood where respect is earned and merit is rewarded" and "Start Here". All of those phrases are enticing to young minds, coaxing them into the incredibleness of the USMC. This is also appealing to the 3(really 4) goals of the reader, security, recognition and personal/professional growth.

-Throughout another part of the website, following Marine's stories, you find examples and expert testimonies from enlisted and officer ranks. They explain how the Marine Corps has impacted their lives. Which brings in 2 of the 3 reader's goals: recognition and personal/professional growth. It shows the readers in those stories how that can be achieved. Also, security could be one, simply because if you join the military, you could be financially secure, because it's a job that possibly will not end too quickly (partially implied). These appeals make it a great persuader not only to look into further joining the USMC, but possibly another branch. As Andrew Zimmern says,"If it looks good eat it," you could apply that here, if it looks incredible go do it!

    Ineffective Elements:
-I am not entirely sure that there are any ineffective elements of persuasion used here. (Please point them out to me, if there are any!) Unless, ineffective elements, would include ones not used. That would include things such as common sense, that definitely could not be used in this situation, because it is not common sense to want to join the rough and tough Marine Corps. Also, numerical data could be one that is "iffy". You could show a data table or throw figures out there showing how many people who have joined the Marine Corps have been successful afterwards. But, even then, it could be ineffectual too. Considering it would take too much money, time and resources to keep track of all those people. (Which would refer to them using small scale figures, which is explained in the book as a ineffective quality.)

    Persuasion Homework

I chose two websites to compare the effective and ineffective elements for a volleyball coach looking for equipment and uniforms for their program.

http://www.volleyball.com/ is the first website that I chose to review types of persuasion.

    Effective elements:
1 At first glance it has bright colors displaying a general view of the items available
2 On the right and on top it has a quick list of each type of item needed for a volleyball team with direct link for a list of all brands offered
3 At the bottom it has links to almost everything needed for a coach in the sport of volleyball – drills for practice, injury prevention, games, a newsletter and many other items that a coach could use for their volleyball program
4 Moving through each link was easy and had detailed information needed to make a quick decision

    Ineffective elements:
1 After spending about an hour reviewing almost all the links I was very much impressed and really didn’t see anything that I might consider ineffective.

That was a new website that I just discovered and I compared to another website that I have been using for the past 4-5 years and this website now seems much cluttered and you have to really look to find things. http://www.midwestvolleyball.com/store/store.php is the other website I visited and this is what I saw:

    Effective elements:
1 The ability to create a team package to reduce total cost is what smart coaches shop for.

    Ineffective elements:
1 At the top it shows general links for equipment and information about volleyball tournaments. Not needed for those shopping for volleyball apparel
2 The main page is long and boring but it does have some of the same types of links needed to find certain brands of apparel.
3 The need to call for pricing can send me to another web site real fast when searching for best priced apparel that would lead me to having to make a decision at a later date instead of immediately.

Both websites have lots of the same inventory but the first one would get my business because of simplicity and the quickness to find the right pricing. That in itself is very persuasive.

This website uses alot of persuasive methods. For example, the colors of the background are bright so they keep your attention. Also, the website has a clearence tab so you kan get things cheaper on Ebay that you get at the mall. Basically something you compare sells to so want have to go to the mall. This site also display a direct message to it’s consumers that you save more money in your pocket, because you don’t have to get in your car in put gas in the tank, you can have it delivered to our house with a bargain. Last but not least when I click on mens shoes it just don’t appeal to me, it appeals to a variety of people and that catches my eye. Because it shows that we sell all types of shoes. One ineffective persuasive method I saw was that it display a lot of cellphones like cell phones are the only reason I log into Ebay. This website shows a lot of color but it also needs to show more items or promotions in the back ground. Also, this website shows a robot with a heart it didn’t catch my eye in a positive way at all.

    http://www.nissanusa.com/?dcp=ppn.16566607.&dcc=0.94929036

I chose this website because I believe it uses several persuasive tools to catch the customer’s eyes. When entering the website, you instantly see large photos of Nissan Cars, which is considered one of the persuasive elements (design). This persuaded me to want to purchase a Nissan because of the shine of the car and simply because the Nissan Altima is my favorite car. The background and how the tabs are situated make me more anxious to see what this website has to offer. After taking in the home page, I selected the Nissan Altima. The next page presented a larger photo of the car, shining and bouncing off the blue background. To the left of the car image is a box titled, “Find the latest local offers” persuading me to witness the deals in my area. Below the image is a variety of tabs in different colors and in bolder font are the words “Trade-In Value”, “Local Offers”, Inventory”, “Nissan Dealer”, and “Build Yours”. All of these words cover different types of shoppers and with these tabs it allows the customer to browse the website smoother. I noticed that this website rarely shows the prices of the vehicles symbolizing that they rely on the photos to draw the customer in. I believe that maybe they should have implemented more prices and sales that are appealing to customers.

4 At the top in large print are the hours of operation. If you are shopping on web sites then what is this used for? I would want to get an answer quickly if needing apparel in a timing fashion.

In conclusion, the first web site has the better types of persuasion to convince a volleyball coach to do business with.

The website I have chosen is Ebay, com. When I look at this website it is effective to me because it shows you the bargain prices that ebay have to offer. I believe that your first impression means a lot, so the first impression I have over this website is that it has some great valued products for a reasonable price. Although the graphics and designs of this website could have been a little more effective, so that makes this ineffective to me! The reason being is because all of the pictures on the front page are really small and there is not much space on this page. The only thing that persuade me on this website is the reasonable prices.

    Chapter 8: Persuasion Argument

I found an article online that demonstrated an example of a Persuasion Argument. The article title is Fashion Week Moment: Back to the ‘70’s and 90’s. (1)
The claim is the author of Fashion & Beauty wants its readers to get back into the fashion of the 70’s and 90’s trends.
The evidence is the upcoming NY Fashion Week in fall 2011. (1) More evidence is shown as the entire celebrity showcase the fashions during recent and upcoming awards and talent shows like the Grammy’s and Oscar’s news.
The reasoning is it appears to be taking place already when you see celebrities walking down the aisle in design trends of the latest styles resembling updated fashions from the 70’s and 90’s. It is logical to believe that the old clothes you have in your closet may be back in fashion with a few touch ups.
It is my opinion as one article explains (2) that the slim fitting mini dress she wore into the courtroom is a style that has been seen for many years, but now has caused a “frenzy” and the dress has been sold out in stores. The effective element of evidence is very supportive of the claim that 70’s & 90’s claims are back in keeping up to date with the latest styles.
The article is also effective in using persuasive graphics and designs to show its evidence. This is done by the photos of the top models showing “The BCBG Max Azria Fall 2011 collection highlighted soft, feminine style with models sashaying down the runway in long, layered and breezy silhouettes reminiscent of a glamorous ‘70s party. Silk-chiffon and crepe were popular, as were sheer turtlenecks and delicate pleats.”
The ineffectiveness elements maybe the oversimplifying that most people will like the new updates styles. It is in my opinion that some older people may have been ready to get out of the 70’s & 90’s style and more of an upbeat fashion of the 2000 generation to keep them looking young and fresh. The website would have to display the old and the new fashions to show how the old dress has been changed and altered. That may be the convincing persuasion I need to be change my attitude.

    Online Example: www.seekonkgrandprix.com
Looking at the website, I noticed the pictures and the videos as a great technique. That technique is effective because the audience will want to know more about the site and would love to go there just by watching the videos and pictures. The site is advertising fun, happiness, and togetherness. Indirectly they are saying: “bring your co-worker, your kids and families to ensure a stronger bond. They will love you.” The website is so colorful with colorful themes and graphics, which makes it more attractive to their audience. The site uses the word “featured attraction, party packages and rates information” to let their audience know that there is more to what they offer, than just what is shown on their homepage. The site was straight to the point as to what their audience will seek; the site is so professional. They also offer low prices and discount to attract a lot of people, because we all want so much for little amount of money; that instigates affordable prices for all. The site also gives direction to their audience, suggesting that they expect their audience to visit. The website is so persuasive in many ways. The site knows what they want and they reached out to their audience in that same way. The site is saying "valentine and the least summer are around the corner, so call to schedule an event." Their persuasion is to kids, parents, workers, experts, and also to all families who are interested. One does not have to be interested but their site makes it interesting. The site is well built. One thing I love about this site is that, they don’t have too many boring words. They used a straight forward text unlike other websites: http://www.autoinsuranceshop.com/. One thing the site failed to do is having a spot for testimonies by other people but at least they offered expert testimony.

  14. http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/-handbags-10551-10051-62-en?viewType=viewall

This web site shows effective persuasion because it opens with a woman modeling a specific leather handbag. As a frequent Coach buyer and website viewer, I am usually up on the current newly advertised handbags. It is also persuasive at this time of the year because it is near Valentines day, therefore most men trying to purchase a gift for their significant other with the beautiful woman as the site opens. It is also effective how they have to ability to select the several different types of purses divided into styles, colors, and prices ranges. Price ranges is most effective for most people who are on a budget.

In my opinion, I feel that Coach as a whole should broaden their demographic. As long as I have been viewing this site I have yet to see a large amount of ethnic women modeling their handbags. I feel that this makes the site very ineffective to the variety of buyers that they have drawn to their product.
